************************************************************************* 51147 We propose to observe the high redshift quasar PKS1937-101(z=3.8). The ROSAT observation showed the X-ray spectrum of this quasar is very hard. ROSAT could not determine whether this hardness is due to an intrinsic flatness or a strong absorption in lower energies, but ASCA can place strong constraints. It is important to understand the origin of the hard spectrum because it must place constraints on the nature of the X-ray emission and the physical environment of AGN in the early universe. It may also give clue to the AGN evolution and the Cosmic X- ray Background. *************************************************************************
