************************************************************************* 53014 We propose deep ASCA observations of two starburst systems. The first target is the nearby spiral galaxy NGC 4826 which exhibits vigorous star formation in its inner disk in addition to a LINER nucleus. The second is the nearby interacting galaxy pair NGC 4485/4490, in which a tidal interaction appears to have triggered a recent burst of star formation in both galaxies. The objective is to contrast the X-ray properties of these sources with those of other well-known starburst systems and, in each case, to search for a hidden low-luminosity active galactic nucleus. *************************************************************************
