************************************************************************* 53016 The ROSAT discovered enigmatic X-ray AGN RX J0134-42 is extreme in several respects: 1) one of the steepest X-ray spectra during the RASS, 2) dramatic change of its X-ray spectrum in 3 years, 3) very blue optical continuum, 4) no detectable Narrow Line Region emission, but 5) very strong optical FeII emission. A possible explanation of its strange behavior in X-rays could be ``warm'' absorption. Alternatively, the flux of the hard X-ray component could have changed by a large amount. ASCA observations of RX J0134-42 would provide information a) about the physical conditions of the enviromental gas of the central region, b) what is the hard X-ray slope, and c) what is the connection of the hard X-ray emission to the other properties of this source and of AGN in general. *************************************************************************
