************************************************************************* 62001 Recent observations of comet Hyakutake and others have provided evidence of high energy emissions from comets. These observations showed positional detail, but did not have adaquate spectral resolution to discern the nature of physical processes responsible for X-ray emission. While some processes could be ruled out by X-ray broad band photometric behavior, thermal bremsstrahlung, ion charge transfer, or solar wind interactions could not. We propose to observe 2 comets during their perihelion approach using SIS to obtain data to determine the process responsible for emission. We will monitor our primary candidate over 9 days for transient emission. By observing 2 comets successively we hope to determine if xray emission dependends on each comet's characteristics or on solar activety. *************************************************************************
