************************************************************************* 63002 We propose to observe the eclipsing binary Algol (consisting of a B- type primary and K-type secondary) during four secondary optical minima. Since the B-type primary component in this system is X-ray dark, one expects X-ray eclipses to occur, if the corona around the K- star is spatially confined. Such eclipses were seen once with ROSAT and ASCA, but not with EXOSAT. The purpose of the proposed observations is to check whether secondary eclipse is a persistent feature of Algol's X-ray light curve or not. The observations are very well suited to both the ASCA orbit and the ASCA mode of observations. *************************************************************************
