************************************************************************* 63023 We propose to search for 'ultra-soft' Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) by obtaining ASCA spectra of five EUV-selected Seyfert 1 galaxies. We will measure their 0.4 - 10 keV spectral slopes and establish whether their strong EUV and soft X-ray flux is large with respect their higher energy emission, i.e. whether they are truly ultra-soft. The results of our study will test the nature of the X-ray emission in these objects and challenge the models which try and explain what was originally considered the 'canonical' spectrum of active galaxies. *************************************************************************
