************************************************************************* 63030 We propose ASCA observations of two radio-galaxies selected among a sample of nearby 3CR radio sources already detected by ROSAT, namely the powerful FR II 3C 223 and the low radio power FR I 3C 449. The study of their high energy X-ray spectra would be very important to test the proposed unification of FR II radio-galaxies with radio-loud quasars and of FR I with BL Lac objects. For 3C 223 previous ROSAT and Einstein observations are suggestive of a hidden absorbed component. Since the torus becomes transparent and the quasar component dominates at hard X-ray energies ASCA is ideally suited to detect the hidden nucleus in this FR II. For 3C 449 the proposed observation will help understanding whether FR I nuclei are obscured by a thick/dusty torus. *************************************************************************
