************************************************************************* 63035 About 10-15 percent of optically-selected QSOs are BAL (broad absorption line) QSOs, showing deep absorption lines of low/high ionization levels of CIV, Si IV, N V, OIV, Mg II and Al III in their optical-UV spectra with poorly known physical conditions. They are known to be X-ray faint in the softer surveys and this could be due to heavy absorption intrinsic to the BAL QSOs. We propose to observe three relatively bright BAL QSOs with ASCA as a part of our hard X-ray survey of this class of objects with optical-NIR photometries and spectra. We expect to derive the column densities of the intrinsic X-ray absorbing material and investigate the relationship with optical-NIR properties. *************************************************************************
