************************************************************************* 71046 Long-term observations with Ginga ASM, CGRO BATSE, and RXTE ASM have revealed that the black hole candidate GX 339-4 is in the high (soft) state more frequently than other black hole candidates. These observations and those of Cyg X-1 have also shown that, in these sources, a hard to soft state transition often occurs after a large flare in the hard x-ray (20-200 keV) band. Here we propose a series of ASCA observations with RXTE and BASTE and other ground based observeratries to reveal true wide band energy spectra. *************************************************************************
