************************************************************************* 72073 We propose an ASCA observation of G344.7-0.1, a Galactic SNR recently detected in the ASCA Galactic Plane survey. G344.7-0.7 has a radio morphology suggestive of a composite SNR although the X-ray emission appears primarily thermal. Hard band imaging provides an indication of a hard component which may be associated with the central radio enhancement, although the position is offset from the radio emission. Existing ASCA data are insufficient to perform a detailed study of the remnant in order to confirm or refute the composite nature and to characterize the SNR properties. The SNR was observed off-axis and with the SIS in 4-CCD mode. We thus propose a deeper, on-axis observation using the SIS in 1-CCD mode in order to help unravel the questions raised by the initial ASCA detection. *************************************************************************
