************************************************************************* 73020 Soft X-ray excess emission from AGN is thought to be the hard or high energy tail end of the Big Blue Bump in the UV; the direct thermal emission from the accretion disk of the central super-massive black hole. More recent evidence has shown that the emission temperature of the soft X-ray excess is too high to originate directly from the disk and that more complex models involving Comptonisation of disk photons by a hot accretion disk corona could produce the observed properties of the soft excess. We propose ASCA observations of luminous quasars with known strong soft excess emission to test the properties of the soft excess. *************************************************************************
