************************************************************************* 82022 We propose to monitor the important short period (4.2 day) binary system V444~Cyg for two weeks with ASCA, to provide coverage over 3 complete orbital cycles. These observations will provide the most detailed orbital lightcurve of any colliding wind system, and determine the extent of any non phase related variability. V444~Cyg is of particular importance in that it is the best example of a short period colliding wind binary system, and is a key testing ground for our understanding of wind-wind interactions, W-R winds and W-R stars in general. *************************************************************************
