****************************************************** PR # 96 N132D is the most luminous SNR in the LMC. Observations by the SSS, FPCS, BBXRT and ROSAT have determined that the spectrum is dominated by lines; in particular, the O VIII Ly-alpha line is responsible for20% of the luminosity. Despite the prominent line emission, the abundancesderived from previous observations are largely consistent with that ofthe LMC as a whole, far less than solar. The high resolution and broadbandpass of ASCA will allow a deeper investigation into this mystery. Its small size, location in the LMC, and line emission makesN132D a versatile calibrator: for absolute flux monitoring, measuring low energy pha-to-energy conversion, and effective area. N132D should be observed in all 4 SIS chips to allow cross chip comparisons. ******************************************************
