DARTS of the Month

"Hunt space treasure data !"

We had the open house of Sagamihara campus on 30 and 31 July 2010. The sample container of Hayabusa spacecraft was first-ever exhibited to 33,000 citizens who were fascinated by the dramatic capsule return to the Earth this June.

Introduction of ISAS data archive DARTS and quiz of scientific data were displayed in our booth titled "Hunt space treasure data !". More than 1,100 visitors enjoyed quiz about the latest result obtained in each research field, using the "treasure cards" which display beautiful and cool figures of stars and planets. We had two more brandnew exhibitions: the web site named "Musics from Earth and Sun" which plays music data converted from radio emissions of auroras at Earth and explosions at Sun's surface observed by Akebono satellite and the site "the Sun on your birthday" which displays the X-ray images observed by Hinode and Yohkoh satellite with a calender-like interface. Movies were also displayed for introductions of our data archive DARTS. Some visitors watched the movies interestingly.

It seems that many visitors enjoyed the open house with "Hayabusa fever" this year. I hope that we can make ISAS and DARTS more popular for further people from next year as well (see PLAIN news for more details on this report).
