Planetary Material Sample Curation

Asteroids Sample Curatorial Dataset

Mission Descriptions

Overview

This archive contains observational data of extraterrestrial material samples obtained from sample return missions. The data, measured using ground-based facilities, is stored and managed by the Astromaterials Science Research Group (ASRG) at the Extraterrestrial Sample Curation Center.

Currently, the archive includes measurement data of samples returned by the Hayabusa mission from asteroid Itokawa and the Hayabusa2 mission from asteroid Ryugu. In the future, it is planned to add data from the OSIRIS-REx mission, which will return samples from asteroid Bennu.

These data provide valuable information for understanding the origin and evolution of extraterrestrial materials and the formation processes of the solar system. The data is available online for researchers and the general public to access freely. This promotes collaboration within the scientific community and is expected to lead to new discoveries and technological advancements.
