Well-developed theory suggests that the inner flow should be advective and radiatively inefficient, with a standard thin disk truncated far from the black hole. Resolve spectroscopy of M81* offers the best chance to finally reveal the geometry and dynamics of a radiatively inefficient accretion flow (RIAF) onto a black hole. M81* is the brightest LINER /LLAGN in X-rays. Prior Chandra/HETG spectra reveal low-ionization and He-like and H-like Fe K emission lines that are likely redshifted. A 100 ks exposure with Resolve can make unique tests of RIAF models.
