Geotail Data Search and Plot
Overview
Description
Geotail Data Search and Plot is a tool that allows you to output data observed by the Geotail satellite?such as magnetic field, electric field, and ion moments?in ASCII format, as well as plot graphs of the data.
Main Features:
- Interactive Plot: Plot graphs based on specified conditions
- Output data in ASCII format in the specified coordinate system
- ASCII Listing: Output data for magnetic field, electric field, and ion moments
- MGF High Resolution: Output high-resolution magnetic field data
- MGF Search Coil: Output high-resolution search coil magnetometer data
- LEP Ion Distribution: Output ion distribution function data

How to Use Interactive Plot
There are two main ways to use this feature:
- Access URL1, select the observation date/time and coordinate system you wish to display, and click the “Submit” button.
- Edit the parameters of URL2 and access it directly.
URL
- https://darts.isas.jaxa.jp/app/stp/geotail/plot.html
- https://darts.isas.jaxa.jp/app/stp/geotail/cgi-bin/mom_fx.cgi?yy={}&mm={}&dd={}&hm1={}&hm2={}&crd={}&stn={}&pol={}&nlog={}&tlog={}&xgrid={}&ygrid={}&psize={}&Submit=Submit
URL Parameters
-
yy, mm, dd: Observation date. Example: September 18, 1993 → yy=1993&mm=9&dd=18
-
hm1, hm2: Start time and end time (hour, minute). Example: 00:00?24:00 → hm1=0000&hm2=2400
-
crd: Coordinate system for output. One of GSM, GSE, or SM.
- GSM: X to the sun; X-Z plane contains the Earth’s dipole axis
- GSE: X to the sun; Z along the ecliptic pole
- SM: Z along the Earth’s dipole; X-Z plane contains the sun direction
-
stn: Editor used. DSN (=Editor-B, DSN) or JPX (=Editor-A, UDSC/USC).
-
pol: Coordinate system for B vector and V vector. 0 (=Cartesian) or 1 (=Polar)
-
nlog: If set to 1, ion density data is displayed on a logarithmic scale. If not specified, plotted on a standard scale.
-
tlog: If set to 1, ion temperature data is plotted on a logarithmic scale. If not specified, plotted on a standard scale.
-
xgrid: If set to 1, grid lines are drawn at major ticks along the X-axis. If not specified, no grid lines.
-
ygrid: If set to 1, grid lines are drawn at major ticks along the Y-axis. If not specified, no grid lines.
-
psize: Output size. 0 (=A4 size) or 1 (=US Letter size)
