Welcome to DARTS/BICE

About BICE
An extensive galactic plane survey of [CII] line emission at 158 microns has been made in 1991 and 1992 by using a balloon-borne telescope (BICE, the Balloon-borne Infrared Carbon Explorer) with a cryogenically cooled Fabry-Perot spectrometer (Okuda et al. 1994). Integrated intensities of the extended [CII] line emission from -106 [deg] to +26 [deg] in galactic longitude and ±5 [deg] in galactic latitude were precisely measured.
The [CII] line emission is generated in moderately ionized region, and used as an important probe of physical and chemical processes in the interstellar space and global structure of the Galaxy.
