Separating these components requires simultaneous high-precision x-ray/optical monitoring, which has heretofore not been achieved. We propose to gather this necessary data via simultaneous optical and x-ray monitoring of the Sy 1 galaxy Zw 229-15. Kepler is monitoring Zw 229-15 every 30 minutes with unprecedented 99% duty cycle and 0.1% repeatability. The key missing data is an appropriate x-ray campaign. We propose a 64-orbit (165 ks) Suzaku long-look combined with a series of 48 Swift visits to probe lags of 0.1-10 days. This will be the first experiment sensitive to such short lags and thus will critically test the present disc/reprocessing paradigm EXTRAGALACTIC COMPACT SOURCES 7 B RICHARD MUSHOTZKY USA 6 AO6 SIMULTANEOUS SUZAKU/SWIFT/ KEPLER MONITORING OF ZW 229-15 XIS Y https://data.darts.isas.jaxa.jp/pub/suzaku/ver3.0/706035010/ Quick Look
