Joint XIS/RGS analysis enables one to directly account for the effects of resonance scattering and thermal structure in order to minimize degeneracies in the abundance estimates. At the same time, the incidence of resonance scattering serves as an indicator of the prevalence and causes of ISM turbulence. The unprecedented opportunity to measure and map oxygen abundances afforded by the XIS is key to constraining nucleosynthetic origins and enrichment mechanisms.
