These objects represent the optically richest clusters at these redshifts from the 100 square degree survey using the red-sequence method of cluster detection. As such, they form a critical sample for calibrating the mass-richness relationship for high redshift cluster surveys. Our proposed observations will allow us to determine their X-ray luminosities, as a first guide to estimating their masses, and enable future studies to determine accurate masses from their X-ray properties. These studies are complimentary to mass calibration programs we are carrying out using estimates based on lensing, IR stellar mass and galaxy dynamics.
