However, searches of hot diffuse halos around massive spiral galaxies found them to be relatively small and not very massive. The UV observations have shown that the baryonic halo mass depends on the specific star formation rate (sSFR) and not on the total mass of the galaxy. We propose to observe the halo emission of NGC3221 with very high sSFR. Detection and characterization of the hot halo around this galaxy will expand our understanding of the dependence of halo properties on galaxy properties, and advance our understanding of galaxy formation, feedback and metal enrichment proposed by theoretical models.
