This will extend our initial analysis in one direction to the north-west which has allowed our team to obtain high spatial resolution profiles of temperature, density and entropy. The XMM temperature map of the central 30 arcmins shows a complex temperature environment and deviations from spherical symmetry, and good azimuthal coverage is important to obtain an accurate understanding of the outskirts.Observations of the Perseus cluster have shown significant azimuthal variations in the ICM temperature and entropy. Centaurus is the best target for understanding the ICM in the outskirts of a relaxed, intermediate mass cluster.
